This position is based in Raleigh and requires up to 25% travel.


The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is seeking applicants for an Administrator Specialist I (Administrative Assistant) for our Supporting Teaching and Related Services Section within the Exceptional Children Division. This section is responsible for providing leadership to the state agency, public school units, and the general public in the areas of autism, intellectual disabilities, multiple disabilities, specific learning disabilities, behavior and related services. The section also provides leadership on large-scale assessment, including NCEXTEND1, the use of standardized assessments to evaluate students for possible special education services, and leadership in Medicaid billing requirements and procedures.This position is to provide administrative support for the Section Chief, DPI Education Consultants and five contract positions in the Exceptional Children Division, Supporting Teaching and Related Services Section. The major duties and functions for this position include the following: preparing correspondence, contracts and documents; maintaining records and files; scheduling conferences, receiving and logging grants/applications; meetings and appointments; and processing all items related to the conferences and meetings; processing mail; and providing assistance with miscellaneous work activities. The person in this position facilitates all correspondence related to funding, grant applications and fiscal monitoring. The person in this position is responsible for maintaining an electronic system for funding projects and federal grant application status. Consultants, other staff in the Exceptional Children Division and the general public can communicate with the person in this position concerning applications andreports. This position requires a person who is flexible and can easily adapt his/her work schedule according to priorities. Deadlines occur daily, weekly, monthly, and annually. Deadlines are a part of this position.

    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements


    High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
